FAR NORTH DALLAS JULY 2009
LAUNCH: Twice As Nice
By Marlena Chavira-Medford
It was the ultimate sibling rivalry. J.J. Pearce twins Jonny and Hannah Kelley stood on the tennis court. Across the net, another brother and sister duo faced them. In the balance hung the state title for mixed doubles. “It was brother and sister versus another brother and sister, so it was pretty interesting, pretty intense,” Jonny recalls. “We knew going into that match that we had to be on our game.” And on their game they were. The twins walked off that court with the state title — an especially sweet victory after three years of attempts. “We were really in sync that day,” Hannah adds. “Like all siblings, we fight — and if we go out on the court during a fight, we’ll usually lose.” But that family bond also has its perks. “We’ve grown up playing tennis together, so we instinctually know what the other one is going to do next on the court.” The duo is heading to Abilene Christian University this fall, where they will both still be playing tennis.
