Photo exhibit features Woodrow students, mentors

A photo exhibit featuring Woodrow Wilson High School students and their mentors from the Rotary Club of Dallas opens tonight at the Cathedral of the Virgin of Guadalupe downtown. The photos are the result of a year's work by portraitist Debra Shore, who photographed the 28 students in Woodrow's "Dream Team" program, and about 52 Rotary members who mentor them as part of the program.

The Dream Team program is in its fifth year, and the Rotary Club of Dallas would like to expand it to other schools and service organizations, said Jim Atkins, the club's director of community service. Former DISD superintendant Linus Wright will speak at the exhibit's opening tonight at 5:30 p.m. Wright also is a former U.S. Department of Education undersecretary.

The exhibit, titled "Dreams: The Power of Mentors," will be on display at the cathedral through June 15.
