I Heart Yogurt opens at Preston Royal Village
I was out and about this afternoon at Preston Royal Village when I spotted a new sign for a place called I Heart Yogurt. A self-proclaimed foodie and sucker anything with sugar in it, I couldn't resist.
Turns out this is one of the coolest yogurt shops I've ever been to. This is a do-it-yourself yogurt shop. There's an assembly line of 12 self-serve yogurt flavors--everything from Irish cream, pomegranate, and New York cheesecake. I went with a Swiss milk chocolate and peanut butter combo. If you want to experiment, just ask for sample cups. All of them are nonfat, but all are very tasty (honestly, I sampled them all).
The best part, however, is the do-it yourself toppings bar. You can pick from healthy fixin's like granola, yogurt chips, walnuts and chopped mango---or, if you totally want to blow the diet, there's cookie dough, candy bar bits, and chocolate chips.
When you check out, you put your cup of yogurt on a scale and are charge 40 cents per ounce. While I was paying, I spotted several neighbors taking advantage of the free WiFi. The employee at the counter told me all their cups and spoons are made from corn starch, so they're biodegradable.
She also told me I Heart Yogurt is a California-based yogurt company, but they have big expansion plans in our neighborhood. The Preston-Royal location has only been open about two months, but they are already getting ready to open another new location off Lovers and Inwood by February. And another location at Snider Plaza will open by this spring. She said ultimately, the goal is to have 11 Dallas locations by 2010.
